COMMUNITY

Our communities are more than just a collection of buildings.  Our community is where we live, where our kids go to school, where we work and play.  A healthy and vital community means a community with great schools, 21st century infrastructure, adequate police and fire protection, good paying jobs and great recreational opportunities.  For too long our communities have been ignored by Columbus.  I will fight for the resources needed to revitalize our communities.

Infrastructure:
If we allow our aging infrastructure to be neglected, power outages, insufficient and unsafe drinking water, poor internet connections, and decrepit roads could all soon have a negative impact on our communities.
  • Fight to restore Local Government Funds.  Our tax money should stay in our communities to hire police and fire fighters, it should not be used to provide tax cuts to the rich.
  • Fight to include money in the budget to provide loans and grants to local governments. These can fund many infrastructure projects including broadband expansion, sewer and water systems, and road and bridge repairs.
Healthcare:
It is difficult to keep a job, improve your employment skills, or raise a family if you have health problems.  We need to expand access to affordable healthcare, especially for people who have chronic conditions such as diabetes.  The rising epidemic of drug addiction only adds pressure to an already underfunded system.
  • Expand Medicaid coverage.  Too many people are not covered by employer insurance and do not qualify for insurance subsidies.  Expanding Medicaid will help families escape poverty and lead healthier, more productive lives.
  • Fight for funding to increase the availability of addiction treatment programs in our communities.  Lets shift the focus to treatment rather than incarceration.
  • Advocate for a Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program.  Working people in Ohio should not have to worry about losing their job or falling behind financially to take care of a sick child or relative; address their own serious health condition; or care for and bond with their new child.
  • Ensure that PASSPORT and Elderly Services Programs are fully funded to help seniors stay in their homes if they want to.
